It is not appropriate to give references for books you have not actually mentioned in the body of your essay at the end of your assignments. The list of references will include, in alphabetical order of authors' surnames, all works which are referred to in the text.

The full reference list The reference list at the end of the essay or dissertation is where the full bibliographic information for a source is presented. An appendix (plural: appendices) is a section at the end of a book or essay containing additional information. You should use it to cover data or details that aren’t essential to your work, but which could provide useful context or background material. In the main body of your essay, you should indicate when you’re referring to an appendix.

Referencing is given in a reference list, at the end of the assignment. This list contains full details of all the sources cited and it’s organized alphabetically by author. In the Harvard system, after the author’s surname and initial, references include the date of the publication, the title (in italic), details of the place of publication and publisher.

Chicago Appendix Example. Appendix MLA Format. The guidelines and rules are very similar to appendix APA, but there some differences. Of course, it is really hard to suggest exactly how many references your essay should include. This depends totally on the subject matter and word count. A Philosophy essay, for example, may have a lot of critical thinking and be quite theory-heavy, and for this reason you may need more references than a typical English Literature Essay.

This example paper uses footnotes. When a footnote is needed, the writer can add a citation in Microsoft Word. First, open the “References” tab and click the button, “Insert Footnote.” This makes a small number appear to the right of the sentence that is in need of a reference, and a corresponding number appears at the bottom of the page.
